24-hour Urine Collection

This test is designed to measure the quantity of some of the hormones that you produce during a 24 hour period.

1. Please pick up a container for the urine collection from the lab. If you need to have bloodwork done that day, make sure you make an appointment for the day you drop the urine ahead of time. (If you don't need bloodwork done, you will not need an appointment.)
2. For the collection, try to wake up at about the same time for two days in a row.
3. After waking up on the first day, urinate and flush as usual. DO NOT collect that urine.
4. After this, you should collect all the urine that you produce for 24 hours - all day and all night, including the first urine the next morning (this goes in the container, do not flush).
5. Drop the urine container to your lab the same day you finish the collection. For this reason, time the collection such that you don't finish on a Sunday or a holiday, when the lab is closed.
